Upcycling

Today was a busy day filled with a lot of driving and picking up materials for the shop. All the driving today was fueled by an epiphany ... I had previously decided I was going to install tile in the majority of the shop, but that all changed today. I decided to stick within the theme of the shop "Up-cycling and Re-purposing."  There is a small glitch in this new idea and that is I created more work for all of us! Boy not everyone was happy, but after sharing the idea and convincing through a collage of pictures backed by some research the idea became a little more tolerable.

If all works out the way "I think" it will then what a treat the floors will be. I am so excited and so exhausted all at the same time.

I am really tempted to share the new idea with everyone, but I think I may save this surprise until we actually start creating the floor. I will make sure to post pictures as well as share the process as we learn our way through this incredible Up-cycled project.

What I will share is a photo of the shop in the condition we received it- now remember I have plans for the face of this building.

Here is the mock up my son created for me; however, I have a few other ideas in mind as well.


Let me state for the record, "I reserve the right to change my mind and drive everybody a little crazy," ... I am just kidding (Kind of)

Pre-Renovation Booth & Space Information

Booth Sizes and Rates
Now taking Pre-Renovation Applications for Booth Space and Consignments.

3, 6, 12- Month Booth Lease, Showcase, and Displays Available:
Month-to Month is available at an additional charge of $5.00 a month after the first 3-months commitment.  

(Booth space, size, and location are flexible during the Pre-Renovation phase, so if you do not see the size you are looking for please ask)

Monthly Booth Discount Options
Rates range between $75.00 - $275.00 per month, plus a 10% administrative fee on all sales.  
Sizes range from 5’ X4’ to 16’ X 6 (all dimensions are approximate and first priority will be given to all leases signed before the renovation is complete).  Inquire about other sizes of interest during the Pre-Renovation phase. 

Fixture Rates
Please inquire about our  fixture rates i.e., display racks, shelving systems, end cap shelves, wall space and consignment items. 

Booth Discounts
Booth discounts will be given for all booth lease-signing referrals. For each booth leased signed the Vendor will receive $20.00 of 1-month lease. In addition,  for the Vendor who sends in the most customers within a month will receive a discount on 1-month lease total lease, not to include the 10% administrative fee. 

Condition: Must make sure U.R.U., is aware of the new lease signer and customers sent in to the shop in order for U.R.U., to keep record for a fair tally. 

Consignment 
U.R.U. will offer a limited amount of Consignment space. Consignment fees will range between 30-40% depending on the items. Please contact the  U.R.U. sales agent at  sales@urudecor.com for more information.

U.R.U.'s Little Helpers


Busy Bees … Late this afternoon I loaded the vehicle filled with tools, supplies, refreshments, and U.R.U.’s little helpers.  These little helpers are dedicated hard workers who sure can pull their fair share and can hold their own when working with the big people!

What more could one ask for than an anxious crew of boys willing and wanting to do whatever they can and or are needed to help…
 
Here is a quick snapshot of the boys packing up the hundreds of books we inherited with the store-




As you can see, we have a lot of work ahead of us and the first step is emptying the store from the previous store contents.  There is so much "Stuff!”  Thankfully, I love "Stuff," but what collector of vintage wares does not.

The "Stuff" has no chance against the crew I have, already this evening we packed up over 50-boxes of books and emptied 15-shelves, and rid the floor of books.  We can now walk clearly down the back side of the shop without tripping over each other or the BOOKS!

Downtown Mass Street in the evening ... In one word "AMAZING!”  I Love it and tonight we had a cool breeze and fresh rain, I couldn't ask for anything more.

We Signed the Lease

After a couple of months of emailing, phone calls, and visits, we finally signed the lease for our soon to be opened store U.R.U. 

It is always exhilarating talking in hypothetical and ideas; however, when the reality of everything that is still left to be done stares one in the face nerves seems to get the best of a person, similar to pre-wedding jitters or buyer’s remorse.

I am not confessing to having buyer’s remorse I am simply looking at everything that needs to be done, which if I look at in an entire picture I feel I might become sick ... (giggling as I type)

The best way I have found to squash these little nauseous episodes or to calm the butterflies fluttering within my tummy is to line tasks up in sequential order.  In other words, start with what is most important and go from there.

Therefore, I have decide to tackle the restroom… how important is it to have a functional and working restroom ...  I know it may seem odd that this is where we decided to start, but really, if you think about it how bad off would you be without your working restroom?

I just want to share that although the restroom may be small and compact it needs a major overhaul.  I may provide some pictures so others can see the magnitude of work that is ahead of us, in this tiny little space that is vitally important when opening a business.  (I say all of this with a lighthearted tone, yet very serious about the situation).

Do not let the pictures scare you off instead look at it from the creative side and watch as we transform it over the next short while. Well maybe I better not ....




The again maybe just 1, but keep in mind we have not started on it as of yet, picking up supplies today. :) Wish us luck!
